Our History
Caseificio Gelmini: a tradition that has lasted since the 1800s
In the heart of the traditional Gorgonzola area, the company was born at the end of the 19th century in Besate, a town on the river Ticino, surrounded by once navigable canals. It was precisely together with the creation of canals for water resources and waterways that the production of Gorgonzola developed, and it established itself definitively around the middle of the 19th century with the first aging structures. In this great opportunity era Gelmini’s Gorgonzola started and established its important history, mostly thanks to Carlo Gelmini. A remarkable connoisseur of the king of blue cheeses, he was born and raised in the factory, and was able to turn the activity he inherited from his grandparents from a small artisan business to the present modern company succeeding at national and international level. Today the company is run by the third generation, Carlo Gelmini’s sons, with the same philosophy inspired by tradition, quality and sanitary safety of its products; real values passed on from father to son.
